Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual's ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences. Vicarious trauma occurs when someone witnesses a traumatic event and feel the full impact of it. Jason and Jolene discuss their own experiences with vicarious trauma, and how common a phenomenon it is, despite what people might think.
